Tucked away in the quiet, scenic village of Kovachevets, an hour from Veliko Tarnovo and 10 minutes from Popovo, Muddy Puddles Farm is your independent countryside retreat and an ideal location for property hunters.
We are Adam and Amanda — two Sheffield folk who swapped South Yorkshire for a farm house with a small field. We moved here full-time and figured things out as we went — from finding honest solicitors we actually used, to getting a Bulgarian bank account, to paying the bills, the water, the council tax and dealing with the municipality in Popovo.
We are not experts or estate agents and we don’t take a cut — but if you’re house-hunting in the area, we’re happy to share what we learned from our own move to help make yours a bit smoother.

We offer an affordable, peaceful alternative to staying in the city, with free parking, free WiFi, home cooked meals on request, and easy day trips to Tsarevets Fortress, Arbanasi, and the best of northern Bulgaria.

In October 2025, I stayed with Mandy and Adam and their sweet little dogs. They were very hospitable, and Mandy cooked delicious meals. The room was super clean, and the bed was wonderful. Mandy also showed me around the Popovo area. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. Compared to the Netherlands, it feels like stepping back 60 years in time.
